Purpose of the job:

As a Bookseller you will receive stock, unpack deliveries, categorize books and merchandise stock.  You will also focus on customer service, driving sales and ensuring all customers are given the excellent customer service they deserve by ensuring all their needs have been met.  You will build up your book knowledge every day, while building strong relationships with your customer/s.

Main Responsibilities

Customer Service – offer assistance to every customer entering the store with a friendly face and positive attitude.

Housekeeping – keep the store clean and tidy.

Merchandising – make sure all window displays and in- store displays are attractive, eye catching and changed every two weeks.  Check that the Bestsellers are in stock and on display.

Stock Management – assist the manager in measuring and controlling stock shrinkage.

Security – be alert and aware of the non- shoppers/shop lifters.

Book knowledge – build up your knowledge on books in the store.

Sales and up selling –  build up relationships with potential customers, up sell and cross sell.   Push the promotions.  Recommend a substitute and/ or alternative book as well as other complimenting products. Offer to source and order books for the customer, using the lookup system at your disposal.

Admin and control – cash ups, credit card checks, wage payouts, shortage reports, supplier payouts, attendance registers, email communications, gift vouchers, etc.
